Online Discussion, Painting and Drawing Apps

How to set up private online discussions for your students

If your school does not provide school wide technology that promotes discussions or digital portfolios, then create discussions using established social media such as Blogger, Tumbler or Instagram.   To protect the privacy of your students, it is possible to create private accounts and only invite your students, or approve them when they ask to follow you.

On the right are examples of student work posted on a private Tumblr account.  Image 1 is followed by Student Statement.  Image 2 is Statement followed with a Teacher Comment.

Here's how to set up private accounts in Blogger, Tumblr and Instagram:

Ipad Painting and Drawing Apps

There is nothing that can replace putting that first pen mark on  a pristine white surface,  watching Sumi ink bleed onto wet paper or mixing paint with a beautiful brush.  But artists have always pushed the boundaries and now there is the wonderful new sensation of sliding your figure across glass and making a mark.  These Apps will expand your digital paint box.
There are lots of free drawing apps.  These are our favorites: *
Draw Pad
-
Create books of drawings, print them out as pdfs, export images via email, Facebook etc. as pngs.
ShowMe - Add color, change the size of pen tip and record as you draw.  Export via email, Facebook etc.
Doceri - Create layers.  Import photos from your digital albums, record as you draw.  Export mp4 via email, Facebook etc.  Edit in IMovie
Paper 53 - Free but if you want more than a black pen, you have to buy the package.  Create a digital sketchbook and then the plus is that you can actually publish your work digitally to a Moleskin sketchbook
iPastels - A digital pastel that has creative capability close to real pastels; features include: pinch to zoom, multiple undo/redo steps, layers support, customizable color sets/palettes
ArtRage -
ArtRage gives you complex painting tools  in  an intuitive environment that allows you to create sophisticated layered  images, as well as to record and replay your images on your computer or handheld device.
