Overview of Lesson:  Students generate ideas and develop a figurative sculpture that expresses personal traits and interest.  The 3-D self portrait, an assemblage is made up of objects that are symbols of the artist.
Big Idea:  Self portraits can be created using ‘readymade’ objects as symbols in a 3-D sculpture.
Goals:  Self portraits can be created using ‘readymade’ objects as symbols in a 3-D sculpture.
To demonstrate:
  • understanding of the symbolic potential of sculpture.
  • knowledge of artists who use found objects in their work.
  • increased skill in conceptualization of artistic ideas and work.
