NFC or Near field Communication   coming soon to a gallery or store near you.

NFC is a short-range, low power wireless link evolved from radio-frequency identification (RFID) tech that can transfer small amounts of data between two devices held a few centimeters from each other. Unlike Bluetooth, no pairing code is needed, and because it's very low power, no battery in the device being read. Soon you will be able to use this to pay for a cup of coffee and to find out more information about a product when you are standing next to it.  Imagine using it in an art gallery. There are endless possibilities since it is so easy to use.

For example passive NFC 'tags' on art works or posters in a gallery could contain just about anything.  When you are in close contact with a work of art, your phone could automatically tell you all about it.  You don't need to scan a code, push a button or pull up an app .  It would bring the work to life because it would just talk to you via your phone.

Apple's new ibeacon technology is related to NFC .  Click here for more information.
